Missing Infill Steel
print icon
  STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Ambiguity created between drawings, owner''''s intent, and contractor''''s understanding. The Ghafari drawings create some confusion between a general note on the plan vs. the intent on the details. As a result, neither the facility contractor or the press contractor included the erection of the infill steel in their contracts. Schedule delay since not included in either contracts; increased cost due to field order.

COURSE OF ACTION
Field ordered and installed (w/ cost and schedule impact).

LESSON LEARNED
Needs to be a key discussion point from project to project. The general suggestion is to have the RE&F contractor to fabricate and provide the structural/misc steel, and the press installer to subcontract the erection of the steel. The metal deck should be part of the RE&F contract for the floor slab work. May consider having the RE&F contractor perform the erection, but would be a big schedule consideration.
