Statement of Problem: Safely interfacing with flumes, trenches, and pits was a significant challenge at the GM Romulus Engine Plant. After demolition of the process equipment, there was a large number of open flumes that were approximately 18" wide and varying in depth from 8" to 12'' deep. The intricate layout of these makes barricading and maintaining access to work areas difficult.

CCC''s scope included temporarily covering exposed flumes, removing debris from the flumes with an excavator, pressure wash the flume, and scrape out any manufacturing debris. This process exposes operators, lifts, and ground men to unprotected flumes which are a fall hazard.
