STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Part of the scope for the Analytical Lab project was to replace the existing AHU Motors, VFD''s, and Controls on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floor of the New Administration Building. The problem was that the control sub-contractor excluded it from their contract and the electricians contract stated "receive and install VFD''s for new mechanical work". They claimed that the their contract was for new VFD''s on the roof indicated on the electrical drawings. The AHU''s on multiple floors were existing and they stated that it doesn''t fall under their contract because it was shown on the control drawings.

COURSE OF ACTION: We talked at great length about this with all parties. At the end it was decided that Ferndale Electric is responsible for this work and they performed. They may have missed this work when they bid the job but the GC should not be held responsible for that.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJCTS: Clarify at bid time that either the electrical sub-contractor or the controls sub-contractor is carrying all VFD associated with the project. The controls guys said it wasn''t their''s and the electricians said it wasn''t their''s because it was shown on the controls plan and not the electrical plans.
