CCC Job #3374 StarPlus Energy Kokomo Battery Plant

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:

Normally UG site utilities would be installed during the site preparation phase prior to placement of foundations.  In this project the utility and mechanical plans were still under development when foundation work started.  This led to UG work being put off and the site becoming saturated with contractors and material.  This in turn caused the work to be installed as required to maintain construction of individual buildings or as areas became available.  This led to a utilities being installed inefficiently, changes to systems, and conflicts with the installation of other work.

ROOT CAUSE:

Fast pace of the design build meant that the construction outpaced the MEP design and consequently site utilities.

COURSE OF ACTION:

The Site/Civil team maintained a weekly review of what areas could be accessed for UG installation and attempted to prosecute the work as quickly as possible.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS:

Push for the completion of utilities drawings so work can be completed prior to the start of foundations.
