8551.1 GM Detroit Factory Zero Phase 3

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

CCC notice that a lack of worker engagement during tool box talks

ROOT CAUSE

N/A

COURSE OF ACTION

The CCC safety team (Lucas) created a fun way to increase worker engagement. During the tool box talk to provide a written quiz with a handful of questions. The questions would be reviewed and scored. Highest scoring would receive a Home Depot gift card. The written quiz generated buy-in from all employees. The gift card provided an incentive and wining made it competitive. We noticed more engagement during and after the tool box talk. Increased Journeyman engagement with apprentices.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS

That if the same old routine is no longer generating the results, modify it the system for current conditions. This too in time will have diminishing returns. Find ways to keep the workers engaged during the tool box talks and more importantly to apply this knowledge moving forward. We have a lot of aging journeyman with a wealth of knowledge that needs to be transfered to the apprentices.
