GM Pontiac Column Coordination Log
print icon
  STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Due to the amount of the utility drops at columns for this project being on the lighter side, a column coordination log was forgone and instead any and all column coordination was performed in regular 3D coordination meetings between CCC and its subcontractors. The primary reason for the column coordination log is to ensure that internally amongst the trade disciplines that utilities are not clashing when multiple utilities are placed on one column. Additionally it is a useful tool for coordinating new utilities with existing when new work is being done on existing columns w/ existing utilities. However, the column coordination log provides a quick and comprehensive spreadsheet that is easily referenceable in the field from a QAQC standpoint, in lieu of referencing multiple drawings. Additionally, a column coordination log should be utilized for effective communication to the owner/plant representatives and for their ultimate approval of the placement of all of the utility drop locations.

COURSE OF ACTION
None

LESSON LEARNED
1) For all projects, even if the D/B team feels that a column coordination log is not necessary internally for utility coordination, a log must be created, tracked, and maintained as a requirement for QAQC and clear communication with the owner.
2) The coordination log must undergo a design freeze where the GC and facility and process owners signoff on the log to ensure everyone is on board.
