Concrete Pit Layout

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: One of the pits installed in the Metrology Lab was laid out in the incorrect location and the issue was not noticed until after concrete was placed. The issue was brought to the attention of the customer to see if the pit could stay in the wrong location, but it was too close to a hi-lo traffic area and needed to be moved for safety reasons.

COURSE OF ACTION: A section of concrete was cut and removed in order to install the pit in the proper location per the drawings. This work was self performed in order to reduce the total amount of out of pocket expenses.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS: Always go out in the field with your team and verify the locations of important embedded items before any concrete is placed. It is also recommended to use a third party surveyor or a dedicated field surveyor to layout embedded items when there are multiple items that need to be laid out.
