Lab Equipment Validation
print icon
  Project Phase:  Construction
Delivery Method: EPC (Engineer Procure Construct)
Statement of Problem:
The project team as a whole did not sufficiently perform due diligence in verifying all of the physical characteristics of the existing lab equipment that was to be relocated to new laboratory building by DTE.
At bid time DTE provided an equipment matrix which ahd all of the listed equipment to be moved, the footprint, and utility requirements. However, during design, DTE stated that the info may not be accurate and it was up to D/B team to verify all of the information.

A holistic equipment validation study should have been performed to validate the equipment list that DTE provided. However the engineers apparently only investigated equipment that was questionable and left many equipment requirements "as is" with what DTE originally provided which was incorrect. CCC thought that engineers validated all of the equipment requirements but they hadn''t.

This led to many of the power requirements for equipment to be revised due to being incorrect loads, while circuits were being ran. This added a large amount of cost to the job.
