STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:

The architectural waterproofing details for tie-off stanchions on the STG and Aux boiler building roofs was insufficient. This led to water leaks within the building that had to be repaired.

COURSE OF ACTION:

Resolution – install boots, flashing, and waterproofing membrane to the detail. There were also holes in the tops of these stanchions for galvanizing purposes, these holes then allowed water to enter building.

ROOT CAUSE:

Poor detailing/design.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS: 

Be sure the final product coming to site does not have exposed holes to elements.
