Job #

DTE - Kiewit Blue Water Energy

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:

HVAC units for the Admin building IT room were oversized. This caused an issue with the units not being able to go through their full cycle on the AC compressors. The units would blast cold air, then causing the thermostat to read low air temps, but the dehumidifier on the units would not run through the cycle so the air was humid in the room – causing concerns. There were unit heaters installed in the room to try and keep the air temps higher to allow the units to run through the dehumidification process, but it was still causing issues.

COURSE OF ACTION:

Unknown on final resolution.

ROOT CAUSE:

Units were oversized by design.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS:

Ensure that HVAC units are right-sized based on space and heat loads.
