CCC Job #3303 StarPlus Energy Kokomo Battery Plant

AGV Path - Floor Flatness Requirements

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:

Floor flatness requirements for slabs on metal decks were clearly identified in the specifications. Customer insisted that we increase the flatness and levelness requirements to accommodate the AGV cart paths being installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the buildings. CCC stated that the only way we could get those numbers was to shore the metal decks. Customer didn't want to pay the cost.

ROOT CAUSE:

No clear understanding of the requirements for the AGV paths. Drawings did not show the path, flatness requirements were not brought up until after slab on deck placements had started.

COURSE OF ACTION:

It was determined that the floors would have to be ground down and a self-leveling floor product would be used to flatten the floors to achieve the FF/FL numbers that the customer insisted we needed.

This work was quoted and performed. Later, after the team that was installing the AGV's showed up onsite, it was determined that none of this work was actually required. The AGV's could accommodate an un-level and sloping floor.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS:

Equipment installers should be invited to the pre-pour meeting to discuss requirements prior to starting slab placements.
