Mod Section Shipping Order

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

The Mod 1 Trim Mod sections started shipping to the plant in numerical order from Station 101-117.
we discovered when we started installing the mod sections that there was only  (2) hangers on the three mod sections bolted together.

This caused us to have to use chain-falls on the opposite end of the hangers. which made it challenging to bolt the next section onto the first section hanging.

This was very time consuming.

ROOT CAUSE

Assumptions were made the Sections would be assembled in numerical order.

COURSE OF ACTION

Project Manager went to a meeting at ESYS to convince them that the best way to ship these Mod Sections was to take them apart in their shop and ship the center sections first.

This was only able to happen for Mod 3,4,&5. this made the installation way better.

We leveled the center sections first and then brought the outer sections to mate up with the center sections.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS

If you are installing Modular sections of steel, hold a meeting with the supplier and make sure they can ship the sections the way you need them shipped.

I would suggest that the supplier ship the center sections first and then follow with the outside sections.
