Pre-engineered Building in lieu of Standard Steel Frame

Cost Savings for Owner electing to erect a pre-engineered building (Butler or equiv.) instead of a standard steel-framed building can yield high savings based on the building use and systems.
Notes on evaluating this option:
  1. Pre-engineered buildings are optimal for spaces with low occupancy and few mechanical systems - minimize hanging loads, roof loads, and MEP penetrations as these become costly and difficult with preengineered metal buildings. Ideally suited for warehouse or storage type use.
  2. Pre-engineered buildings have long lead time for engineering and detailing. Check with supplier on current lead times.
  3. Careful coordination must take place between the pre-engineered building design and the building foundations and anchor bolts provided by others.
