Equipment Tracking

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: CCC had numerous projects, PMs, foreman, and superintendents all on one site and equipment was being shared. CCC also had several field personnel dedicated to multiple jobs at WTAP. Often times when personnel would switch jobs they took their equipment with them but would not transfer the costs. GC-07 had self-perform steel, interiors, and concrete and was tasked with managing CCC owned equipment, and equipment rentals from 5 different companies at a time.

  - Steel uses Cloverdale and Frazier
  - Interiors uses MacAllister
  - Concrete uses United Rental and AIS / CRC

COURSE OF ACTION: Communicated with foreman and superintendents to keep tabs on equipment. Printed out invoices and went through them with field crews to ensure equipment was on site. Made an internal equipment log on excel to try and track changes taking place.

LESSON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS: Use a single company on a big program / project to try and get discounted rates and make things easier to track and log. As discussed in the last PM meeting, possibly look into an equipment dispatcher to best utilize buying power and owned yard equipment.

If we are on a large program like this in future, each PM needs to be managing their equipment logs and it could be beneficial to establish periodic PM huddles to review equipment on site/tracking. Superintendent buy-in is necessary as well for coordination when they move from job to job.
